Catalytic Converter Service

Catalytic converters are simple, yet effective components of the exhaust and emissions systems. It is simply a metal canister–made of precious metals–that react with the exhaust to produce fumes that are less toxic to the environment. Catalytic converters were first required in the United States when the EPA made them a requirement in 1975. Because of the precious metals used, catalytic converters have been victims of theft. However, they also break down naturally.

What to Look Out For

  • Check Engine light on – any malfunction in the workings of the catalytic converter will result in a check engine light to illuminate.
  • Failed Emissions Test – most states require an emissions test to be passed before renewing a vehicle’s registration. If this test is failed, then it is most likely the catalytic converter.
  • Weaker Engine – this will happen if the catalytic converter becomes clogged up for some reason, and will need to get looked at by our service mechanics.

Alpharetta Motor Sports has been servicing vehicles for 35 years. Our ASE certified service mechanics have the tools to inspect, diagnose and repair any catalytic converter issues you may be having.
